Distinctive Unit Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a black representation of the South Gate of the ancient walled city of Suwon, Korea above two gold battle-axes in saltire surmounted by a brick red annulet. All above a black scroll bearing the inscription "LIFELINE TO FRONTLINE" in gold letters.
Brick red and golden yellow are the colors used for Transportation. The organization's service in Korea is symbolized by the Korean South Gate and their service during World War II in Italy is represented by the two battle-axes taken from the Roman Fasces. The annulet symbolizes movement, the basic mission of the Battalion.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 1 February 1968.
